Gallery – Horseshoe Meadows to Rock Creek (June 2)

This was a looong day. As we didn’t begin hiking until 2pm, once we reached the trailhead, and packing too much food and water in fear of running out, we didn’t arrive at our destination until 10pm. Tired and exhausted.

The subalpine terrain, covered by Foxtail Pines. It's rocky, dusty and unforgiving.

The bark of Pinus balfouriana subsp. austrina. The Foxtail Pine lives up to 3000 years old, with remains in the region being carbon dated back as far as 5000 years, fosilised and preserved from time by the cold winters.

Greg and I at the border of the parks.
